Alan Grayson Marries Candidate Running For His Congressional Seat
MELBOURNE BEACH, Florida — U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) married Dr. Dena Minning, a candidate running for his congressional seat, over Memorial Day weekend on Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Grayson, an ultra-liberal millionaire known for his outlandish statements such as "... the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly ..." chose to exchange his vows in Dr. Minning's hometown, an affluent beachside community where registered republicans outnumber democrats nearly 2-1.
Minning was quick to capitalize on the Grayson last name in the race for the congressional district which represents part of Orlando, Florida. Her campaign website and social media accounts were changed to Dena Grayson on Monday, just one day after the couple had married, The Orlando Political Observer reports.
Grayson is giving up his congressional seat to run in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate office currently held by Marco Rubio. But he faces an uphill battle with little help from the democratic political establishment. A recent ethics investigation into Grayson's hedge fund has prompted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid to publicly urge him to resign his congressional seat, saying that he has “no moral compass,” according to The Washington Post.
