Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson was the deciding vote at last Tuesday's Commission meeting to approve financing for All Aboard Florida (AAF). Anderson had previously opposed AAF's plan to operate commuter trains through Brevard County, Florida.
"In exchange for the
approval in Brevard, All Aboard Florida agreed to pay for the
maintenance of railroad crossings for eight years, pay $500,000 in
matching funds toward safety upgrades to allow
for quiet zones, and give the county $375,000 - an amount equal to a
waiver fee that is typically paid to the corporation for issuing the
bonds," Anderson wrote in an email to Brevard Times. "The corporation also agreed to pay its $375,000 waiver fee to
Brevard County."
