UPDATE: The County Commission decided that Commissioner Anderson would engage in more fact finding and seek input from interested parties regarding any ordinance proposal brought back to the Commission for consideration.
VIERA, Florida -- Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson has placed on the agenda for the upcoming County Commission meeting a proposal for the Board to revisit Brevard County's "vehicle for hire" regulations which includes the regulation of taxi cabs, limousines and shuttles.
According to documents filed with County, representatives from local vehicle for hire businesses met with Commissioner Anderson and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office staff to discuss "perceived shortcoming in existing County regulations governing Vehicles for Hire."
Vehicle for hire businesses said during that meeting that they have observed improperly licensed vehicles operating within Brevard which they contend creates an unfair competition for business that do comply with licensing and insurance requirements.
A draft ordinance was submitted to the County Commission that is modeled after the City of Orlando's vehicle for hire regulations. The draft ordinance also takes into consideration regulations adopted by the City of Melbourne.
