"Hands Across the Sand" In Cocoa Beach

COCOA BEACH, Florida -- On Saturday, May 17, 2014, people will gather for "Hands Across the Sand" around the world.  In Cocoa Beach, participants will gather at Lori Wilson Park around 11 a.m. and conduct a beach clean up.  After the cleanup, participants will join hands across the sand at noon.

 
Organizers say that "people around the world will join hands at noon local time to say NO to offshore drilling, seismic air-gun testing, hydraulic fracking, XL pipeline, tar sands mining, coal fired power plants and mountaintop removal mining and YES to clean energy."


Hands Across The Sand was founded by Floridian Dave Rauschkolb in October 2009. Hands Across The Sand is endorsed by national environmental organizations including Sierra Club, Audubon, Surfrider Foundation, Oceana, Florida Wildlife Federation, Alaska Wilderness League, 350.org, 1 Sky, Friends of the Earth, Conservation Law Foundation, Cleanenergy.org, Florida Coastal & Ocean Coalition Save Our Seas, Beaches and Shores,Inc. Sunetric, Gulf Restoration Network.
