185,000 Less People On Food Stamps

According to the latest U.S. Department of Agricultural report released on January 4, 2012, the number of U.S. participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or also referred to as Food Stamps) dropped by 184,954 participants in October 2012 after hitting an all-time record high of 47,710,324 for the month of September 2012.
The total number of food stamp participants for October 2012 was 47,525,329, or 22,973,657 households, with an average per person benefit of $133.48 per month.  


Before the drop in October, over 600,000 new Food Stamps participants were added in just one month from August 2012 to September 2012.  There were about 32 million Americans on Food Stamps when President Barack Obama took office in January 2009.
