Gun Owners Strike Back At Media - Publish Home Addresses
Second Amendment gun ownership advocates struck back at the media by publishing the alleged personal addresses and information of employees of The Journal News and its parent company Gannett, which also owns USA TODAY.
The addresses were published in retaliation after the White Plains newspaper The Journal News ran a controversial article last Saturday with an online map of gun permit holders' home addresses in the New York counties of Westchester, Putnam, and Rocklandon on its website LoHud.com following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Fashion Island in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Journal News article drew over 1,600 mostly negative comments. The first comment states, "How about a map of the editorial staff and publishers of Gannett and Journal News with names and addresses of their families..." which received over 800 likes.
Some of the other comments questioned the journalistic integrity of the article, the exposure of the permit holders to be burglarized or harmed, and compared the map to Nazi Germany by saying, "So should we start wearing yellow stars of david so the general public can be aware of who we are?"
The original publication appears to come from a blog titled Sauce for the goose or, home address and phone number of Journal-News publisher. Many gun rights websites and blogs seem to agree with the first comment and original blog by reposting the now viral information on sites like looserounds.com, www.northwestfirearms.com, and many more.
After the controversy, The Journal News defended the article. “New York residents have the right to own guns with a permit and they also have a right to access public information,” said Janet Hasson, president and publisher of The Journal News Media Group.
