Name: Robert “Wayne” Ivey

Age: 50

City of Residence: Mims

Occupation: Resident Agent In Charge (Retired) Florida Department of Law Enforcement

Bachelor's Degree, Supervision and Management, Daytona State College

AAS Degree, Criminal Justice, Brevard Community College

Graduate, FBI National Academy

With over 31 years of law enforcement experience, I have been blessed in my career to serve as a Corrections Deputy, Deputy Sheriff, Homicide and Narcotics Investigator, and as a Special Agent for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).  I additionally served as the Resident Agent in Charge for the Brevard & Volusia County FDLE Offices serving as the supervisor and manager with oversight over Investigations, Administrative Duties, Crime Scene, Narcotics Task Force, and all other management functions.  I developed and implemented Florida's Statewide Task Force on Identity Theft that would subsequently be named as one of the top five most innovative programs in the country.

Additionally, I was named the statewide Special Agent of the Year for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and was also awarded the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Commissioner's Award for Contributions To Criminal Justice.  Recently, I was awarded the Marlene Young Leadership Award by the National Organization of Victim's Advocates for my leadership and support efforts for crime victim advocacy and crime prevention. My law enforcement experiences as a Sheriff's Department Member and State Law Enforcement Officer have provided me with extensive experience in management, leadership, budgeting, partnership development, and innovative measures to combat and prevent crime.

What makes you the best candidate in 300 words or less?

Our next Sheriff must have "experienced leadership" skills that combine being a great law enforcement officer with being a Shepard for the community.  The next Sheriff must be able to operate an extremely cost effective agency while simultaneously ensuring that adequate funding is provided to maintain critical law enforcement services.

With over 31 years of law enforcement experience at both the local and state level, I possess the leadership qualifications to advance the Sheriff's Office to the next level.  I am the only candidate that has served as both a Corrections Deputy and Patrol Deputy, and the only candidate with statewide experience and perspective regarding approaches to fighting crime.  Additionally, I am the only candidate with management level budgeting experience and legislative experience to work with our legislatures to combat crime and keep criminals in jail where they belong.  I am also the only candidate that created three programs to prevent and investigate crime, each being named as the most innovative programs in the country for their partnership concepts.

To effectively serve our citizens our next Sheriff must also be engaged in the community, working closely with our various community based organizations to develop programs focused on protecting our children and offering them opportunities to succeed rather than fail.  As the only candidate that has been actively engaged in our community by serving for the past ten years on the "Board of Directors" for thirteen "not for profit" organizations I understand first hand the importance of being an active part of the community in every dimension and not just as a law enforcement officer.

My 31 years of "experienced leadership" and career experiences have provided me with the tools to effectively lead the 1,200 men and women of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and protect the citizens of Brevard County.

Name: Todd Maddox

Age: 48

City of Residence: Melbourne Beach

Occupation: Lieutenant, Brevard County Sheriff's Office

Financial Report

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Auburn University and graduated the Command Officers Development Course from the University of Louisville. I have completed hundreds of hours of advanced training in homicide and sex crime investigations, SWAT operations, and leadership courses. In addition, I have completed the core work for Masters in Public Administration at Webster University while working full time.

For over 25 years, I have held a multitude of positions in law enforcement, with over 22 years of those serving the citizens of Brevard County. My service has included: patrol deputy, homicide agent, sex crimes agent, SWAT Team member, Hostage Negotiator Commander, Emergency Response Team Commander, sergeant in patrol and investigations, and patrol lieutenant. In addition, I led the over 170 members of the Special Operations Unit, which include operational personnel, reserve deputies, and volunteers. Currently serving as a Lieutenant, I hold the highest rank attainable through testing and education, and I am the only candidate in this election to achieve this distinction. Each of these positions has provided unique opportunities and a chance to serve my community in different capacities.

What makes you the best candidate in 300 words or less?

I have the experience and the training, as well as being tried and tested at every supervisory level thus giving me the needed leadership and management skills needed to be sheriff. Because of the exposure received while working so many different positions and various responsibilities, I feel I have a great understanding of the agency and can easily relate to the employees. Whether it’s a deputy working all night and then going to court, an investigator working countless hours on case, entering the home of a wanted person or managing numerous supervisors, I understand what they are going through as I have been there myself. It’s this unique perspective that unequivocally separates me from any other candidate.

Brevard is still facing tough economic times and government will have to make some tough choices. I have the first hand knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office budget and I believe we can do better. My number one priority, if elected, will be to trim the budget while still providing the services necessary to protect the public. I have pledged to trim 5% from the overall budget over the course of my four year term. This can be accomplished by streamlining our management staff and cutting unnecessary items from the budget. I intend to go back to a zero based budget concept and remove the items from the budget we no longer need. There are also schedule changes that are available that would put as many as 30-35 deputies on the road at no cost to the tax payer.

My experience as a manager and an administrator, my excellent education, my training as a law enforcement officer and my knowledge of what sets Brevard County apart from other counties is what makes me the best qualified candidate for sheriff.
