Santorum Wins Big In Louisiana 2012 Primary
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum won by a landslide in the Louisiana Republican Primary last night. The 2012 Louisiana GOP Primary results are: Santorum 49%, Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney 26%, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 16%, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul 6%.
Although recent polls ahead of the Louisiana Primary had Santorum leading Romney by 12 percentage points, Santorum nearly doubled that margin to 23 percentage points in the actual election which may indicate that Romney's recent Etch A Sketch campaign gaffe is hurting Romney in the elections.
The next key primary is in Wisconsin on Tuesday. A recent Rasmussen Reports poll conducted on March 21st had Romney leading Santorum by 13 points. However, if Romney is losing momentum as evidenced by his heavy loss in Lousiana, it could spell a win or tie for Santorum in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin GOP Primary is winner-take-all with 42 delegates while Louisiana was a proportional primary with 46 delegates.
