City of Palm Bay To Apply For Enterprise Zone

Public hearing will be held by the Enterprise Zone Strategic Plan Committee on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lagoon House, 3275 Dixie Highway NE, Palm Bay, Florida and by the City Council on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the City Hall Council Chambers, 120 Malabar Road SE, Palm Bay, Florida, at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of considering the Strategic Plan for the Enterprise Zone Application.

The City of Palm Bay is applying for Enterprise Zone designation for the area bounded by Lipscomb Street, Florida Avenue, FEC Railroad, Kirby Circle NE and Hudson Avenue NE.  The Zone has been recognized as having above average unemployment and poverty rates, which is a requirement to qualify for Enterprise Zone designation.

Enterprise Zone designation allows the City to participate in a number of incentives to encourage businesses to locate in or expand their businesses within the Enterprise Zone boundaries.

A Working Group has been meeting to establish a Strategic Plan for the Enterprise Zone.  The working group is made up of individuals representing various interests in the area, including local representatives of businesses currently operating in the nominated area, non-profit community-based organizations, local financial services, law enforcement, code enforcement and local residents. 

The Strategic Plan prepared through the efforts of this Working Group will be reviewed at the meeting.  Upon approval by the State, a permanent Enterprise Zone Development Agency Board of Commissioners will assume the duties of pursuing achievement of the goals set forth in the Strategic Plan.
