After some feedback regarding the price of advertising, Brevard Times issues the following Reduced Notice of Political Advertising Rates.
The previous advertising rates reflect free market bids. Due to the media buys from national political campaigns, there is an upward pressure on advertising rates during an election year. Just ask any local retailer or car dealership that advertises regularly on the local news about media buys during an election season.
Brevard Times has already demonstrated its commitment to the community by publishing local campaign events for free, provided the events meet our newsworthy criteria.
As a further gesture of our commitment to Brevard County, we will offer a reduced ad rate for local political campaigns. However, it will only be one of our advertising positions simply because we can not turn down revenue from commercial advertisers.
The advertising spot that we are designating for local political campaigns is the 300 x 250 square that could facilitate an instant start of a campaign video. Before local commercial advertisers complain about this decision, Brevard Times will set aside reduced ad spots for local merchants after the campaign season ends.
In keeping with the advertising rate fairness of Florida Statute Section 106.16 which provides:
"No
person or corporation within the state publishing a newspaper or other
periodical or operating a radio or television station or network of
stations in Florida shall charge one candidate for state or county
public office for political advertising in a county, or for political
broadcasts in a county, at a rate in excess of that charged another
political candidate."
Brevard
Times hereby publishes its advertising rates for the time slots leading
up to the August 14, 2012 primary. Each available time period and
placement is on a first come, first serve basis.
These
rates will remain in effect until the day of the Primary Election on
August 14, 2012. Rates leading up to the general election with be
published at a later date.
Ads
must be created by the political campaign and not by Brevard Times.
Political campaigns are responsible for including the required
disclosures pursuant to applicable Federal and/or Florida Election
Laws.
Only the 300 x 250 square position can have a campaign video embedded that automatically begins to play with audio. The ads must be sent to [email protected] at least 48 hours prior to the running of the ad.
